In 1952, as part of the Kyrgyz branch of the USSR created Sector of Geophysics, then renamed the Division of Seismology, headed by Dr. Ph. D. Sc., Academician EA Rozov (1899-1971 gg.). Since 1963, the Division is part of the Institute of Geology, Academy of Sciences of Malays. SSR. At its base are carried out systematic studies of seismicity in Kyrgyzstan, organized observations in the areas of construction of reservoirs and hydroelectric power stations, as well as together with geologists-tectonics compiled the first map of seismic zoning and zoning of cities and towns.
In 1970, after a 9-point Sarykamyshkogo zetryaseniya rise to the establishment of the Republic Institute of Seismology. In 1975, based on the Department of Seismology and 2 laboratories (neotectonic and seismotectonics) as part of the Academy of Sciences of the CEB formed Institute of Seismology (IP); Directors are appointed by Corr. AN CEB KE Kalmurzaev. Since 1983 the EC heads VI Knauf, 1985 - FN Yudakhin, 1994-AT Turdukulov, 2005-KE Abdrakhmatov. In 1979, when IP was organized Experimental Methodical Seismological Expedition, has the status of an experimental base IS.
IS serves as the National Seismological Service of the country fulfills the law "On protection of population and territories from emergency situations of natural and man-made disasters", participates in the development of normative documents on earthquake engineering. In 2007, was prepared and initiated by the Law "On seismic protection".
IS is part of a single global network of seismic observation (monitoring of earthquakes and nuclear explosions), has the status of the Coordination Centre for the collection and processing of materials for the earthquake in Central Asia, the mapping of seismic hazard in the region, is co-founder of the International Center - Bishkek prognostic test site (IRC-GPG).
Institute prepared 9 doctors (5 elected corresponding member. National Academy of Sciences) and 31 PhD, introduced more than 70 scientific research, received 16 copyright certificates (patents), published 55 books and over 800 scientific articles and Memo "What to do before, during and after the earthquake "in Kyrgyz and Russian languages for adult and school population. The results of studies reported at international symposia, congresses, meetings. Supported by the scientific and creative contacts with colleagues of near and far abroad.
Main Scientific Activities:
The structure of the Institute of Seismology6 Research Laboratories, Center for Seismic Monitoring (24 combines seismic, hydrogeochemical 5, 2 and 5 geodynamic geomagnetic stations), Data Center and the Center for the preparation of the population to natural destructive yavleniyam.V IS research is being conducted on the state budget category and projects financed by international (NATO ISTC, INTAS. CRDF) and the Republican Fund.
