The aim of engineering seismologyIt is the study of seismic phenomena for Earthquake Engineering. In the design of buildings for seismic areas need to be able to predict how the greatest may be subject to fluctuations in a building erected during the time of its operation, ie to forecast seismic effects on the structure.

This basic question of Engineering Seismology - forecast seismic effects - is permitted in three areas. First, the overall seismic hazard defined separate areas of the country, created and refined seismic zoning map of the country. Second, the estimated effect of different soil conditions on the intensity of seismic vibrations on the ground for the amendment, reduce or increase the seismicity of the area. Such studies are conducted for specific areas, called seismic zoning of cities, industrial areas and areas of reservoirs. Third, set quantitative data on ground motion, such as the magnitude of the displacement, velocity, acceleration, periods of energy, ie, created and improved scale for determining the strength of the earthquake, expressed in points, and the peak value of the acceleration.

Over the years, the end of the twentieth century, the department drafted and implemented seismic zoning map of Bishkek, Osh, Jalal-Abad, Batken, Naryn, Karakol, Talas, Tokmok, Kara-Balta, Tashkomur, Uzgen, etc .; the dam construction sites Toktogul, Papan, Kirov, Lower Alarchinskoy, Chon-Kemin, Kichi-Kemin, Ula-Holskoy, Shamshinsky and other hydraulic structures; areas of mining sites - Talas CURRENT Orlovsky Mining and Metallurgical Combine, etc .; industrial construction sites - Bishkek CHP-2, Kyzyl-Kiya cement plant and others.

Currently, the laboratory brings together two laboratories - earthquake engineering and seismic zoning, and continues to work on a wide range of scientific and applied problems in various areas of research.

In the framework of international cooperation laboratory was actively involved in international projects, NATO, ISTC and the CRDF; international project NORSAR (Norwegian Seismological Service) on "Seismic risk in Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, with the possible participation of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan"; GFZ - German Research Centre of the Earth (Potsdam, Germany) in a project to map the seismic zoning of Karakol and the project for early warning of strong earthquakes, to which sets of 60 seismic stations of heavy traffic in the city of Bishkek.

Laboratory works closely with academic institutions and abroad, including: LLC "Gidrospetsproekt", Institute of Geosphere Dynamics, RAS, Institute of Physics of the Earth RAS (Moscow, Russia); NORSAR - Norwegian Seismological Service (Norway); GFZ - German Research Centre of the Earth (Potsdam, Germany); The US Geological Survey (USGS), Kandili University (Turkey), University of Alicante (Spain), Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (Istanbul, Turkey); Institute of Seismology, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and others.

Laboratory support business cooperation with scientific and educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan: the Institute of Automation and Geology National Academy of Sciences; Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG), Research Station RAS in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz State University of Construction, Transport and Architecture (KSUCTA), Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU), KSTU Institute of Mining, the State Construction Committee of Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyz Research research institute of earthquake engineering design, Glavarhitekturami cities of Kyrgyzstan.

The results of scientific research laboratory are published in international and national scientific journals and reported in various international scientific conferences and symposiums.

The laboratory has performed a study on a large-scale explosion to build the dam Kambarata-2 December 22, 2009 .; the study of seismicity of the construction of the tailings Dzheruyskogo gold plant in the Talas region; seysmoregistratsii study and career Bozumchak explosions in Jalalabad; seismic microzoning calculation method of the objects in the Upper Naryn cascade hydropower plants.

Currently, one of the results of the laboratory was the preparation of probabilistic seismic hazard maps and risk areas of Bishkek, Osh, Karakol and the Toktogul reservoir. The laboratory is involved in experimental studies on laboratory vibroplatforme Earthquake Engineering KSUCTA different models of houses.

The main activities of the laboratory:
