Laboratory of seismic hazard assessment organized in 2013 on the basis of units of the Institute of Seismology, NAS KR previous years: the group on the use of space-based information and Seismology seismotectonics (Head. Omuraliev MO); laboratory "Magnetic method of earthquake prediction," headed E.Sh.Shakirovym; laboratory "of electromagnetic methods of earthquake prediction," headed A.M.Toktosopievym.

Main research areas – definition of expected earthquakes; study of the possible effects of seismic impact on existing natural features and man-made structures; seismic hazard assessment in different areas at the local, regional and national levels of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Additional areas of research – study of geomagnetic field variations according to stations in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and the Russian Academy of Sciences Research Station.

  • Map seismotectonics Kyrgyzstan scale of 1: 500,000.
  • Map neotectonics Kyrgyzstan scale of 1: 500,000.
  • Revealing the hidden structures of the crust and upper mantle of the Tien Shan, as well as the advancement of the fluid based on the study of satellite images.
  • Justification (1989) Method of map production forecast of strong earthquakes on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, scale 1: 1,000,000.
  • Map of long-term prediction of strong earthquakes on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic (1996), the scale of 1: 1,000,000 (submitted to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic).
  • Atlas isoseismals strong earthquakes in Central Asia.
  • Atlas peak accelerations of strong earthquakes and laws of attenuation peak accelerations seismogenic zone in Central Asia.
  • Map of active units of the Tien Shan.
  • Revealed the dynamic segmentation of active faults and seismic activity along the vectors and transversely faults.
  • Determine the effect of changes in the geomagnetic field during the preparation of strong earthquakes in Kyrgyzstan.

International activities

Laboratory work together with the Institute of Geosphere Dynamics of Russia and Russian Research Station RAS, Institute of Seismology and Seismological Experimental-Methodical Expedition of Kazakhstan and the Institute of Seismology of Uzbekistan.

International projects:

  1. Active faults and strong movement of the Tien Shan (2000-2003, project ISTC).
  2. Creation of automated system of radon monitoring and development of recommendations on its use as an informative earthquake precursor of the Northern Tien Shan (Kyrgyz Republic) (2001-2004, project ISTC).
  3. Open network of research centers in order to reduce the risk of natural hazards in the South Caucasus and Central Asia (2006-2009, project ISTC).
  4. Geodynamics of Talas-Fergana fault of the Tien Shan and natural disasters in Central Asia (2006-2009, project ISTC).

During the existence of the laboratory it was published seven books, 120 articles, published 2 cards received 10 certificates of authorship of scientific papers, 10 patents for inventions.
